Embedded Systems Engineer Purpose The Senior Embedded Systems Engineer role is a hybrid role that combines elements of hardware design engineering with embedded firmware development. The Senior Embedded Systems Engineer will utilize various Hardware Development Engineering Design Automation (EDA) tools, including, schematic capture, circuit simulation and analysis, CAD tools, and PLD development tools.

The Senior Embedded Systems Engineer will utilize various Software/Firmware IDE, including, Code Composer, NetBeans, and Lattice Diamond. Products are typically microcontroller/PLD based instrumentation and control (I&C) of analog and digital interfaces. Essential Functions Provide technical leadership to a cross functional Engineering team in the design, development, prototype within constraints of allocated budget and schedule.

Generate system block diagrams, schematics, design description documentation to document the new product development thoroughly and adequately. Demonstrate design compliance by analysis using a combination of hand calculations, circuit simulation tools such as PSPICE, and PLD simulation tools. Review Design Specifications to understand customer requirements, and support Sales in preparing proposals in response to prospective customer RFQs/RFPs.

Provide mentoring to less experienced designers and engineers on products, processes, and tools. Support Production organization in resolving issues related to the manufacture of new and existing products. Generate product Bills of Materials, execute Engineering Change Requests, and enter the ERP system (Visual Manufacturing).

Minimum Qualifications (Experience, Education, Training, etc.) BSEE and 10+ years of product design experience with electrical or electro-mechanical systems. Experienced in the hardware design and development of microcontroller based embedded control systems, as implemented in instrumentation and control applications.

Experienced in the software/firmware design and development of microcontroller based embedded control systems, primarily using ANSI C, and Java. Experienced in the development of analog I/O interfaces, including the A/D and D/A interfaces required to interface the analog input/s to embedded processor and/or PLD. Experienced in the selection and programming of PLD devices, using VHDL.

Proficient in the use of schematic capture, circuit simulation, and other design software Experience in design for Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) mitigation, especially as it relates to MIL-DTL-461 compliance. Experience working with 480 VAC, 3-phase power systems. Knowledge of industry specifications including NEMA, UL, and MIL specs and standards.

Experience in technical leadership of cross-functional design teams. Experience with designing for manufacturability, reliability, and serviceability
